OCTOBER 2017

Dear friends, I greet you all!
In the last month, we have helped:
to pay the medicine required for a successful kidney transplantation for, Zachar Tsaplin, 10 y.o, Kiyev region, Ukraine, chronic renal dysfunction.
to purchase supportive medicine for Lauma Maliko, 11 y.o., Latvia, sarcoma, that has been sent home by German medics.
Thank you to all helping!

Those, of course, are not the only care-receivers of us. For a more complete picture of our work, let me give the excerpts from the reports of our local coordinators:

“… At the end of September we saw the family of Vanya A. going home. The results were good: sarcoma was overcome, hopefully, forever. For a year we went along with them, visited, helped financially and with the translations. We really hope that Vanya will be fine. We ask to pray for him, infant Ioann.
We also ask for special prayers for another family we helped, although in this case our help was more like the friendly support and talk, seldom the translations – they managed themselves financially. They went home with the good results, and the control results were good as well. However, the mother wrote today that the German doctors have discovered a kind of ambiguity in the photos, and required to do the second MRT. We fell for them deeply, it’s terrible to imagine what the parents are going through now.
Pray for the infant Arina baptised as Irina.
We have started to prepare for the Christmas bazaar.
Several years ago, we helped a girl Sonya that came for a treatment. She is at the photo at the Diakonia’s poster carrying a huge white teddy-bear. After her death, the parents have decided to adopt a child, or two, provided they are siblings, from the orphanage. They have attended a special school for adopting parents, underwent all necessary procedures and collected the references, and, slowly but relentlessly, are moving towards this goal. Mama Galina have also asked for our prayer help, so that they will not be refused adoption … “

“… In September we have helped the family of S.: with translations, warm clothes and shoes, we have visited them and tried to provide moral support. We have also helped the family of five-year-old Semyon R. from Rostov-on-Don. The family stayed for a week with our parishioner, the volunteers negotiated with the clinic and translated at the professor’s consultation. We go on with the support of the families of Sh., B., E., and the family of the deceased Vlad S. “

Many thanks and gratitude to all of you, our selfless volunteers! Thanks for your work, time, and part of your soul given to others! The things you are doing can not be over-evaluated …

Our children in October:

Zakhar Sokolov, 8 y.o., Hirschsprung disease.
The child was born with a rare pathology – the obstruction of a part of the intestine.
This can only be helped by surgery.
However, in Russia such treatments are not done to babies. The medics promised to treat the child if he manages to survive up to the right age, and sent him home. Parents did not sit idle, they have tried various treatments. Zakhar grew up, began to move actively and play with kids, went to school and was no different from other children.
However, he had a crisis in August of this year. He was in intensive care. Doctors insisted on an urgent surgery. Such surgeries in Russia are successful only in half of the cases, 50% of patients eventually become disabled as a result.
The parents have found an alternative solution in Israel, where such operations bring no complications, and Zakhar would become completely healthy.
However, this costs $ 31,442. Unfortunately, we cannot collect such an amount in the short time left. We sincerely believe that there will be many kind people around to provide all possible assistance in raising the funds.
Maria Laputina, 1,8 y.o., Sumy region, Ukraine,
hydrocephalus, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, Vest syndrome.
The girl was born before term, but in a good health. The trouble came on the 7th day of her life of the child. There was an accident in the intensive care unit, for this she has suffered an intracranial bleeding that resulted in meningitis, hydrocephalus, epilepsy …
The child cannot not empty herself, cannot hold his head, hardly swallows, cannot see, does not speak, practically cannot hear, neither reacts to toys …
It is very important for Maria to find proper anti-epileptic drugs, organize rehabilitation that would help the child to learn the necessary skills, and teach parents how to take care of their daughter. Ukrainian clinics refuse to treat the child.
Already for almost two years the parents have to diagnose and treat the child in commercial clinics, and buy expensive medications abroad, all that at their own expense. In the family where only the father has a job, there is another little child.
The German clinic Helios is ready to help Maria in November. The bill totals to EUR 39,500.
Fr. Nikolai Ulyakhin, rector of the Church of St. George the Victorious in Gorka village, Belarus, asks for financial assistance with the forthcoming surgery. As a complication of diabetes in 2014 that resulted in arterial failure, the priest has lost a leg: it had to be amputated.
At present, a surgical treatment is required to expand the vessels in the remaining leg, otherwise it will be lost soon. This would be a disastrous complication for life at the countryside and active work in the parish.
Fr. Nikolai can not be helped in Belarus. He is expected in the University Clinic of Cologne. The cost of the surgery is EUR 18,000. The diocese has already collected EUR 13,000. One needs to raise the remaining EUR 5,000 by mid-November.

HURRY TO DO GOOD!
Warm hugs,
yours Alina Titova
